About Hey Mazel
Hey Mazel started because finding a rabbi who will actually marry you is harder than it should be, and because the existing wedding sites are built to sell leads rather than answer questions.
Who runs this?
Hey Mazel is run by one person, independently. It isn't owned by a wedding company, a synagogue, or a movement, and nobody pays to be ranked higher on it.
Where does the information come from?
Most profiles started as public information — an officiant's own website, a synagogue staff page, a public directory. Those profiles say "Compiled from public sources" and link to where the details came from, so you can check them yourself. When an officiant claims their page and confirms the details, the profile switches to "Confirmed by" with their name and the month they last updated it.
What if a profile is wrong?
It might be. Public listings go stale, and a fee from three years ago is not a fee. Any officiant can claim their page and correct everything on it: policies, fees, bio, photo. We send the claim link to the public email address already listed at the source, which is the only way to be sure the right person is making the edit.
Does it cost anything?
Not right now, on either side. Couples send inquiries free, and officiants claim and maintain their pages free. If that changes, it will change for officiants and not for couples, and it will be obvious rather than quiet.
A note on who this is for
Both partners. Every Hebrew and Yiddish word on this site gets explained in plain English the first time it appears on a page, because the partner who didn't grow up with any of it is reading too, and nobody should have to open a second tab to finish a sentence. No one here is not Jewish enough for anything.
